Game of Thrones' The Last Watch Explained: Why Season 8 Is So Short

Game of Thrones’ The Last Watch Explained: Why Season 8 Is So Short.

The Last Watch, the documentary film focusing on the production of Game of Thrones Season 8, recently came out and it teaches us quite a lot about what happened. Look, I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but season 8 is incredibly flawed. For most, if not all fans, it’s the worst season of the show undoubtedly. But The Last Watch is a must-needed palate cleanser, a deep look at what exactly went into making this final season happen, whether you liked it or not. But at the end of it all, one thing rings true, fans don’t have a single issue with the entire cast and crew, the work they did in season 8 is unbelievable really, it’s Weiss and Benioff that we really have the problem with, and it’s even more so following the documentary.

There is this feeling that the cast, like Sophie and Kit, don’t really understand that fans aren’t blaming anyone else besides Weiss and Benioff, besides the writing. The Last Watch, this love letter to an incredible team that has worked on the series of years, is loved by every single fan out there. And that is because it focuses on the crew, from production design, to the extras, and on and on. And we all love that focus. But looking at how much work went into the season, it’s even more frustrating that the writing was nowhere near up to par, it wasn’t there to support this incredible work.
