On Friday morning at around 5:00 a.m., Los Angeles police took 33-year-old social media personality and actor Ray Diaz into custody on charges of sexual assault.
Diaz, known best for his role in Hulu‘s popular show East Los High, was captured in San Diego, along with the help of local police there, after an extended investigation into sexual assault and abuse allegations.
According to police, a 17-year-old girl was interviewed revealing she had been dating Diaz for more than a year; clips posted on her social media account allegedly showed video evidence of Diaz being abusive towards her. Since those clips were published, there have been calls for his arrest, and on Friday he was finally found and taken into custody.
On Thursday night, hours before the arrest, the LAPD made its own social media post stating that the agency “is aware of several social media posts related to a social media personality, alleging physical abuse and sexual relations with a minor.”
As you can see (below), they noted their hard work and investigation into those allegations in one tweet, and later, the LAPD chief followed up with news about taking Diaz into custody:
The LAPD is aware of several social media posts related to a social media personality, alleging physical abuse and sexual relations with a minor. We take these allegations seriously. Currently, the Department has directed a group of investigators to look into these allegations.

Wow… they were really on top of this one!
And there you have it, with a “thorough investigation” apparently leading to the arrest.
Diaz, via attorneys, does not appear to have commented publicly about anything related to the case yet. His Instagram account — with several million followers — was locked down from public viewing very quickly after his arrest on Friday.
As for legal proceedings, the actor and social media star’s bail was set at $500,000 upon arrival in L.A. and being booked into jail, though it’s unclear as of Saturday morning if he’s met that bail and whether or not he’s been released from prison.
Regardless, he faces some notably serious consequences if convicted, along with the social media firestorm that has already ripped through Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook about the videos and alleged abuse clips themselves.
